Consciousness refers to the mental state of perception, cognition and awareness of the environment as well as one's own thoughts and feelings. It enables the subjective experience and understanding of reality. Consciousness is complex and can have different levels, from simple sensory perception to self-reflection and the understanding of abstract concepts. Overall, it is a fundamental aspect of human existence.
